The Amarillo High boy and girls team made a sweep at the 3-5A  meet at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock last Thursday.

“Not only did I win overall but my team managed to beat a very experienced Randall team too,” junior Branch Cox said

Cox ran a 15:43.01 in the meet to win his individual district title. Cox being one of the three Sandie runners to earn a top 10 award. Jacob Warren got seventh and Isaac McGill got eight. With a minute to spare, the Randall boys came in second. The Lady Sandies also beat Randall.

“We’ve set really high goals this year and we’re tackling them one meet at a time,” junior Cammie Mitchell said.

The girls beat Randall by 27 points. Mitchell led the team with a 18:31.04. Jewel Baer, Courtney Latham, Brooke Latham, and Makaylee Longoria all placed fifth through ninth. This is this first time in a long time the Lady Sandies won district.

“It’s been 11 years since the Sandie Cross Country team has won district so it feels amazing to do something big in school history,” Mitchell said.

Both cross country teams will go to the Regional Qualifier this Monday in Lubbock.
