Boys, Girls Track Claim District Title

Boys%2C+Girls+Track+Claim+District+Title

Both Varsity boys and girls track dominated district after a fierce and long season. After accumulating a total amount of 224 for the girls and 170 points for the boys, both track teams will now head to Area on April 18.  

During district, the girls placed first in the 400, 800, and 1600 relays. Several
Sandies also found themselves victorious during this meet. Taylor Mixon placed in Shot Put and Nyakat Ezbon won High Jump. Other winners consisted of Jewel Baer, Symone Quiles, Bree Mixon, and Cammy Jenkins.

“This meet has really shown that I have matured because I now know the only person I have to compete with is myself. Knowing this boosts my confidence and makes me want to try harder to please myself.” Ezbon said.

Varsity Boys track also found themselves successful during district; placing in the 400, 800, and 1600 relays as well.  Cooper Newsome placed first in the 800 and Taevon Hood in the 100. Damonze Wood also placed first in the 400 as well as Trey Thomas in the 300 hurdles.

“During District it felt really good knowing that my team and I advanced to regionals. Track is my favorite sport so receiving gold in all three of my events meant alot ” Hood said.
