This past Friday, the Amarillo High School bands competed at the Greater Southwest Music Festival. The Concert Band received a 1st division, the Jazz Band was named as the Best in Class, and the Honors Band was named Best in Class and Outstanding Band for the entire festival.

“The students at Amarillo High worked really really hard,” said band director Mike Ellis. “They were very focused all throughout the spring and they came to sectionals before and after school and worked really hard on their music which gave us a great performance.”

This accomplishment comes on the heels of UIL Concert and Sightreading contest where both bands received straight Division 1s, the highest rank that a band can receive.
