The Sandies (1-1) put on a show for the home crowd at Dick Bivins Stadium on Friday beating Midland High (1-1) 28-21. Quarterback, Brock Wade, lit up the Bulldogs defense throwing 115 yards along with two scores. The running backs kept the game away from Midland after a 69-yard rushing touchdown from Sophomore Pius Vokes, early in the third.
After a tough loss last week to Midland Legacy, the Sandies needed to make a statement, and they did not disappoint. Defense was hitting on all cylinders shutting the Bulldogs down to only 7 points in the first half. Midland attempted a big comeback early in the third getting the game in arm’s reach with a 72-yard pass for a touchdown to Jakob Vines. This was the only passing touchdown for Midland due to poor quarterback play by the Senior Landry Walls throwing below 50% going 9-20. The rushing core of the Sandies took no time to respond and scored the next drive, scoring the next drive. Both Defenses had a down half in the second allowing a total of 28 points; but when it mattered most, the Sandies secondary did their job shutting down Midlands final drive with less than a minute to seal their first win of the season.
