When a famous director such as Tim Burton uses his cunning mind to curate a movie, most would expect it to contain a beautiful mix of both eerie and comedic elements. The new 2024 dark-fantasy, though, unfortunately lacked in comparison to his previous greater feats.
Tim Burton has many cinematic accomplishments that revolve around a dark and whimsical theme. Some of his major accomplishments include; “Corpse Bride”, “Batman”, “Edward Scissorhands” and “The Nightmare Before Christmas” just to name a few.
“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice”, starring Winona Ryder, Micheal Keaton, Catherine O’Hara, Justin Theroux, Monica Belluci, Jenna Ortega and Willem Dafoe among others, is a movie sprinkled with corny acting and poor plot development.
The movie’s pacing was too rushed, making it hard to follow the plot and storyline. The rapid progression of events left little time for key moments to develop which resulted in a confusing and unclear narrative. I found myself lost in the constant revolving door of scenes spilled with special effects and cliche acting.
With corny and childish acting, the actors perfectly captured the theme of the original Beetlejuice. The actors, specially picked to star in the new Beetlejuice, represented their characters to a “T”. I feel if the story was slower paced, the movie could’ve offered more clarity.
The actors, working alongside special-effects, made the movie a cartoon-ish comedy mixed with a creepy atmosphere. The choice of lighting in the scenes that represented the “Land of the Dead” made it easy to interpret where the scenes took place due to the careful cinematography chosen by the team that directed the movie.
The new “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” turned out not as expected, failing in some departments while availing in others. The movie would have benefited from a more sluggish-paced development of a narrative. “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” seems a perfect fit for the Betelguese fan, but confusing for those new to the Beetlejuice franchise and style of Tim Burton.
