The Sandstorm football team faced the Palo Duro Dons last Friday in the most anticipated district game of the season, Palo Duro won 20-14.
The Sandies scored the first touchdown of the game on a rush by quarterback Jett Lopez. Then the Dons responded with a touchdown of their own but missed the field goal attempt, making the score 7-6 going into the second half.
Palo Duro started the second half hot with a touchdown pass from quarterback Julian Reese and a successful 2-point attempt. A couple possessions later, the Sandies responded with a touchdown and successful field goal, tying up the game at 14-14.
With three minutes to go in the 4th quarter, the Dons scored a rushing touchdown, giving them the lead. The Sandies attempted to go down the field and score the game-winning touchdown, but were stifled by the Palo Duro defense with less than a minute left in the game.
Palo Duro took a knee to run the clock out and beat The Sandstorm football team for the first time in 17 years.
