The Inheritance Games, by Jennifer Lynn Barnes, brings readers into the life of Avery Grambs. Avery lives with her sister, and they are struggling to make ends meet financially. However, one day Avery receives a letter. It invites her to the reading of the will of Tobias Hawthorne, a multi billionaire. Her life changes forever after that as she has to solve the mystery of how she became included in the man’s will, alongside his four grandsons. The Inheritance Games brings readers on a whirlwind journey through the perspective of a young heiress. Currently the book series contains three books, with a spin off series that currently has one book. The next book, in the main series, has a release date of November 12, titled Games Untold.
The Inheritance Games, written in 2020, has gained mass amounts of popularity, selling 3 million copies over the past four years. It has plenty of twists, making it hard to predict the plot. Readers who enjoy books with a good mystery would love this book. While it does have some romance, it remains a subplot without much page time.
I first read it in late 2022, and I immediately fell in love with the story. Full of puzzles and riddles, it reminds me of an escape room that readers can try to figure out before the characters do. The characters have very lovable personalities, and it feels like they could jump off of the page.
In conclusion, The Inheritance Games remains one of my favorite book series. I strongly recommend it for readers who enjoy a tense, action packed mystery.
