After a second round playoff loss to the Richland Royals, the Sandstorm varsity football team head into the 2025 season with 15 returning starters and an experienced coaching staff.
After winning four games with only two losses in District 2-5A Division I, the Sandstorm have set high expectations. After being ranked as a top 25 team in Texas Division 5A-1 going into the 2025 season by Maxpreps, Head Coach Chad Dunnam maintains the same mentality he goes into every season with.
“I mean as far as pre season rankings, I don’t put a lot of stock into that, it’s flattering for sure and says a lot about the respect they have for our quarterback Jett Lopez and our other returning starters,” Dunnam said. “Our kids are confident in the work we have put in and the vibes and overall chemistry in the locker room are high, with that we are gonna put our attention on our game against Odessa High on Friday.”
With returning offensive starters such as Quarterback Jett Lopez and Wide Receiver Oliver Parsons from the 2024 team, a squad which managed to average 42 points per game, Offensive Coordinator Stacy Alexander remains confident in the offense for this upcoming season.
“I believe we have all the pieces to put another very prolific offense on the field each week,” Alexander said. “We have varsity experience returning at nearly every skill position led by a returning starter at quarterback, we’re really blessed with the kids we have and look forward to being as dynamic and explosive as we can be.”
Even with school records under his belt and statewide attention, Senior Quarterback Jett Lopez focuses his mind elsewhere.
“My main focus this year is to just enjoy my senior season with my team and compete my tail off,” Lopez said. “I only get one more of these so I’m going to go my hardest every day and I’m going to make sure everyone around me knows that they’ve got an absolute dude on their team.”
