The neon lights flash as music blares into a cacophony of sound. Suddenly, the music quiets to a stop. Two microphones squeal as the crowd silences. The students will soon find out who won class favorite.
On Jan 17, the Sadie Hawkins dance took place at the Civic Center Ballroom. At 10 p.m. that night, STUCO announced the winners for class favorite as well as Mr. and Ms. AHS. Annually, each grade nominates whatever girl or boy in their grade should hold the title of class favorite. Then, on Jan 15, a voting form would announce the nominees.
“My reaction to being nominated was p
ure shock,” Freshman Class Favorite Grace Grammer said. “I really didn’t expect it but it made me feel good to know people were thinking of me.”
As in years past, this year, eight students took the title. Haniel Vuoffo and Grace Grammer for the freshman class, Abbigail Guggenheim and Jake King for sophomore class, Meredith Artho and Lennart Obertanner as junior class as well as Caylee Morris and Bilal Ismail for senior class.
“I was really excited, and my friends were happy for me,” Senior Class Favorite Caylee Morris said. “It was a really good night.”
Unlike previous elections, students and their friends campaigned for their chosen candidates. As students walked through the halls, students would often see posters saying “Vote Jake Kin
g for Sophomore Class Favorite”. In addition, they’d hear shouts of who they should vote for.
“Some of my friends put posters of me around the school to help me win,” King said.
After the roar died down, the time for the announcement of Mr. and Ms. AHS had arrived. The crowd hooted and hollered as Jackson Hubbard won Mr. AHS and Mya Valasquez won Ms. AHS. To end the festivities, Mr. and Ms. AHS shared a dance and the tradition concluded for the 2025-2026 school year.
“To the people who voted for me: thank you,” Hubbard said.
“There is immense gratitude there and humility. I truly appreciate everyone who voted for me because it’s a reflection of the relationships I’ve created, whether indirectly or directly.”
