Many famous books have movie adaptations. While some adaptations do justice to their book counterpart, others seem to lack common plot points. Some people only watch the movies, and some people only read the books. Those who do both often have strong opinions about the movies, myself included.
Firstly, what I deem a “good” adaptation may differ from what others believe, so take my words with a grain of salt.
One of the best adaptations, in my opinion, remains “The Hunger Games.” I fell in love with the books and had high expectations for the movie; it exceeded them. All five movies have stayed very strongly with the original books’ plotlines and got things very accurate. While it does have a few minor differences, it ultimately stays very true to its book counterpart.
The “Harry Potter” movie series adaptation has many amazing qualities about it; however, it has more inconsistencies as well. By far one of the most popular book to movie adaptations, this series has thousands, if not millions, of devoted fans. The actors portrayed the characters amazingly and did the books justice. They did end up leaving minor things and other smaller plot points out of the films. Overall, the movies do a good job of representing the books, but they do not fully encompass all that the books hold.
“The Princess Bride” movie actually comes from a book by author William Goldman. The movie holds much more fame than the book, and I believe that is for good reason. The book has some strange aspects, and I generally do not love the writing style. However, I love the movie. It remains a personal favorite comfort movie from my childhood.
I do not personally love the “Divergent” movies. I like the books, but the movies deviate from the plot quite often. The first movie stays on track for the most part, but the later movies alter a lot of plot points. It has good qualities about it, but overall, it does not stay very true to its book counterpart.
I enjoy the “Maze Runner” series as books but not at all as a movie. I have only watched the first one, but that alone told me all I needed to know about how the rest of the movies would go. They not only changed major plot points, but they changed tiny details that added nothing to the movie. It shares a very basic plot, but other than that, they alter too many things from the book.
Once again, this is just my opinion, and not all details can translate well into movie form. I enjoy watching movies based on books and seeing where the differences lie. Books or movies: all media has its audience, and everyone can enjoy whatever makes them happy.
