Howdy Week will take place Aug. 21-25 as a way for new and old students to kick off the current school year.
During Howdy Week students will have the chance to dress up with each day of the week designated as a specific theme. This tradition began as a school picnic, however, over the years it evolved into a fun way for students to express themselves. However, no matter the version, Howdy Week has always served to bring back Sandie spirit.
“Howdy Week is a good thing for the school because it’s a great way to show your school spirit for the upcoming sports and football games,” Caroline Artho, the recording secretary for executive council, said.
Besides preparing the students for school events, the tradition provides students an opportunity to bring everyone in the school together for the week as stated by Ellee Wade, the corresponding secretary for executive council.
“Everybody kind of does their own classes and activities,” Wade said. “It’s just a way to bring everyone together and all get excited for our school and what we’re doing.”
The executive student council meets every year to plan which themes would make students want to dress up.
“We get together as a group and discuss what the students enjoy the most,” Ayla Bear, the student body president, said.“We tried to make it [Howdy Week] as fun as possible.”
With all the events that will pop up as the school year progresses, the involvement of the student body becomes increasingly important. The student council sponsor, Stephanie Trevathan, urges students to participate to make Howdy Week more enjoyable.
“It [Howdy Week] is more fun when you get involved, “ Trevathan said. “So dress up, be ridiculous, wear something funny. It makes school more fun!”
