The Lady Sandie varsity volleyball team took on Tascosa on Oct. 3 in a district game. Although the sub-varsity games did not go as planned, the Lady Sandies stepped up and swept the Rebels in three sets: 25-16, 25-17, 25-23.
The energy of the crowd played a role in the match, with both student sections going all out to cheer their teams to victory. Although the game took place at Tascosa, the Sandie student section showed up with Halloween costumes in order to “scare away the Rebels”.
“We had great energy all night on the court and from the bench,” Head Coach Mike Moffitt said. “Both student sections were loud and energetic, and that makes it a ton of fun.”
Key players in the match include seniors Kennadi Payne and twins Ryan and Blair Pennington, as well as juniors Sienna Cavalier and Bird Moffit.
“Our team just celebrated every point and picked one another up if someone made a mistake,” Cavalier said. “I think that’s the main reason why we won because of how we just meshed together.”
The Lady Sandies continue their season, making their way through the district and preparing for playoffs.
“We are almost halfway through the district, and we also have Lubbock Cooper coming here during our district bye,” Coach Moffitt said. “They are a playoff-quality opponent, so we are excited for that challenge.”
