Students Making a Difference

Annual United Way Week
Students+Making+a+Difference

PALS stepped in and saved a slow, boring two weeks without football games or pep rallies with the annual United Way week on October 16-20.
United Way is an organization designed to “Fight poverty and give opportunity to all” and fight for the community’s health, education and financial stability. The local high schools and middle schools host different activities to help raise money for this corporation.
United Week kicked off with an hour lunch on Oct. 13 and will end with an assembly that features wrestling in mashed potatoes, selected students playing games and teacher lip-syncing.
The days in between consist of singing telegrams, homework passes, hat passes, donut sales and a penny war which is a war using coins and dollars where the girls and boys compete to cancel out the money saved by each gender. Pennies count toward the total amount and silver and paper count against.
This year their goal is to save up at least $10,000. The money raised goes right back into the community to make Amarillo and Canyon a better place, and there is no better way than allowing high schoolers to have fun while giving back.

Here is a list of the activities and costs.
