College Checklist

College+Checklist

Wrapping up college applications, seniors are either waiting for decisions or know where they plan to go. Committing to a college/university is one of the most important decisions for seniors, but once they make their decision, they can begin the next steps in their college journey. To ensure you complete everything needed to enroll, follow this checklist:

  • First and most important, accept your admission offer. By doing this, you tell the college of your choice that you plan to attend. It will also give you access to financial aid, scholarships, housing, freshmen orientation and much more.
  • After accepting your admission offer, go to the school’s enrollment website to double-check that all your information and transcripts have been submitted. If you have not submitted all transcripts, it will tell you which ones they do not have and how to submit them.
  • Next, activate your college email. You should receive an email to the account you listed on your college application that will contain your new college email and explain how to activate it. This should be done quickly since most colleges will relay most information about your admission through the email address they give you.
  • After finishing the first three steps, look for financial aid/scholarships. Based on certain things such as academics, family income and extracurriculars, the school may give you a scholarship automatically. However, whether they give you one or not, you should apply for FAFSA and other scholarships you qualify for.
  • Finally, apply for housing and orientation. Unless you plan to live off-campus, apply for housing as soon as possible because most dorms fill up fast. Then, pick the most suitable date and sign up for orientation where you will learn about class registration, clubs and meet new people.

Remember that every college is different. They will all have their list of things for you to do, however, doing everything on this checklist will give you a good basis.
