The world seems to have fallen quickly and madly in love with the high end brand, Coach. In the past year Coach has surpassed Micheal Kors as the second largest luxury handbag in the country. Fueling this comeback is the Y2K style, social media and the focus on the affordability and designs of these bags.
Coach’s comeback points to a bigger shift in teen fashion, as Y2K trends, social media influence and affordable luxury shape what feels stylish and relevant. Vintage Coach bags now dominate thrift hauls and TikTok outfit videos, giving the brand fresh energy. This rise depicts how teens value pieces that feel nostalgic, customizable and expressive without the high price tag tied to luxury.
“Coach bags have become popular for teens because they offer a perfect mix of nostalgic Y2K aesthetics, accessible luxury and the hype on social media,” sophomore Jaelyn Aguilar said. “The brand also appeals to younger customers like me who are able to express themselves through customization of the bag.”
The Y2K style has continuously made an appearance this last year with celebrities like Addison Rae, Bella Hadid and Megan Thee Stallion sporting Coach Bags to complete the fit, boosting the desirability of these bags to the public to complete their Y2k outfits.
“I have multiple,” sophomore Olivia Thomas said. “The big slouchy bags are definitely back in, trends recycle themselves. Seeing my favourite celebrities like Lily Rose Depp and Emma Chamberlain definitely have a big influence on purse culture right now.” .
Social media has probably been the biggest and best contributor to Coach’s popularity with influencers posting content showing off their vintage finds and different ways to customize the bag. Coach also continues to push out collaborations with celebrities appealing to a younger demographic.
“I’ve seen lots of TikToks of girls customising their bags which I think is really cute and made everyone else want one,” sophomore Audrey Taylor said. “What drew me in was when I saw a bag in my favorite color being customized with charms.”
And of course in this economy finding a designer bag that is affordable would be high in demand, and the Coach bags are exactly that. Coach offers well made bags with prices as low as $100. Making them smart buys for style and quality.
Coach is great because it looks like and feels similar to real high priced luxury bags, but as teens, we are still able to afford it,” sophomore Isabella Brady said.
