From Feb. 13 to Feb. 14, the Cypress-Berry Center in Houston, Texas hosted the High School Amateur Wrestling State Competition. Senior Ethan Webb placed fourth and junior Drezdyn Ballard placed second.
“Though it was difficult being number two in the state going in, pressure makes diamonds,” junior Drezdyn Ballard said.” As a team I was very sure of us and very proud of what they could accomplish.”
Both Webb and Ballard placed first place at regionals to move on.
“There’s no other sport like wrestling that changes you in the way you think,” Webb said.
Junior wrestlers Peyton Jumper, Jennifer Mcneil and senior Gavin Chambers also competed at regionals.
“Since my first competition, I’ve learned to be more confident and to relax to perform my best,” Chambers said. “Without wrestling, I would not be the person I am today.”
The wrestling staff has done their best work with the wrestling team. They are dedicated to helping the kids get better at the sport they love.
“The last couple of years and this year have been very rewarding,” Coach Gregg Clear said. “The kids here are really fun to work with. They are a great group of young men and women and they are all fun and worth doing.”
