On March 24, 2026, Principle of Business teacher Theresa Miller became the 2026 Chick-Fil-A Leader Academy National Teacher of the Year after the owner and operator of the Chick-Fil-A on Coulter, Allie Brinza, nominated her for the award.
“I was at a loss for words,” Miller said. “Later on in the day when I was able to absorb exactly what had happened, it was very emotional for me because my heart was bursting with gratitude.”
Miller has been teaching for over 30 years and began the Chick-Fil-A Leader Academy last year.
“I have tried to be a lifetime learner, so when new teaching strategies are proven successful, I try to implement them in my classroom,” Miller said. “I have been blessed with some incredible mentors along the way.”
A crew of both local and national representatives from Chick-fil-A along with the famed cow mascot and district leaders from Amarillo ISD surprised Theresa with the award that morning.
“The main reason we do the academy is because of the students. The academy is based on servant leadership,” Miller said. “It is a great opportunity to learn how to lead people and to serve the community.”
With the award, she won an iPad, Chick-Fil-A branded pickle ball set and $10,000 put towards the school.
“This academy is highly respected among employers and colleges and universities,” Miller said. “We are very proud of how the academy has made a difference in our community through our service projects in just two years.”
