On Friday, October 23rd at Dick Bivins Stadium, the Amarillo High Sandies hosted the Caprock Longhorns in what would be the Sandies’ Homecoming. A 57-3 blowout victory for Amarillo High came out to be the biggest margin of victory in the history of the Amarillo High-Caprock matchups since 1963.
After battling injuries for the first few weeks, the Sandies welcomed Brock Wade, Erik Gray, Trey Thomas, and Bryson Slaughter back to the lineup. Brock Wade, who got pulled in the fourth quarter, finished with 139 yards and four touchdowns off 11 for 16 passing. The junior quarterback found his rhythm early by dropping a perfectly placed over-the-shoulder ball to senior wideout Davin Lemmons. Davin would score later in the first quarter off of a pick-six, showing he can play at a high level on both sides of the ball. Wade later connected with Cayden Phillips, Taevon Hood, and Jameson Garcia for his other three scores of the night. The only hiccup for the Sandie defense was a roughing the kicker penalty that later led to Caprock’s only score of the night coming from Cason Polivoda’s 29 yard field goal.
