Choir All-District is an event for choir students all over the state of Texas to compete and reach a high chair rank. The end goal, to get to All-State, which is extremely hard to do due to the increasing difficulty in music as you progress. If you make it to All-State, you get to go to San Antonio for a concert with all the other students that made it.
All-District occurred on Saturday, Sept. 28 at Caprock High School and lasted from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. About 75 students from AHS advanced to the next level of auditions on Oct. 28.
“I started with listening to the tracks and then later on I moved over to piano,” Tenor 2 Chair 1 Tristan Ard said. “So it was about 4 weeks of practicing with words, and then 3 weeks of practicing with the piano.”
Most of the auditioning students felt confident in their singing.
“I felt prepared, I mean I felt pretty good, there were a few parts where I felt off but I made sure to go over those a bunch of times on the way to the audition and in warmups,” Alto 2 Chair 1 Korbyn Richardson said.
The new director knew that his students would do well.
“I felt really good, I had a lot of kids that prepared well and we had a lot of kids auditioning this year,” Choir director Bryan Hackett said.
