Friday night lights shine among the players, and the student section remains ecstatic. Cheer leaders throw stunts, and the Steppers hit every move with precision. What makes a Friday night football game exciting to watch is not only the game itself but the special side line aspects.
Amarillo High beat Tascosa 63-21 last Friday, November 7, at Dick Bivins Stadium. Due to the events that transpired before Friday night’s game, the tension in the crowd was high. The energy at that game felt higher than ever. The sideline acts performed above and beyond that night, making the students get more excited for the game. Cheer leaders, Steppers and band had been preparing for this game for weeks. They all put in hard work to make sure they stood on point for the rivalry game.
“I feel like we did very well on our halftime performance,” said sophomore Stepper Audrey Taylor. “The tension in the air was very high, but it was also one of the funnest games I’ve ever experienced as a Stepper.”
The Steppers put in blood, sweat and tears into their performance. They made the perfect visual with their pompoms and sparkly uniforms. They all shined during halftime, hitting every move with perfection.
“Our team wanted to show off at Friday night’s game,” sophomore Cheerleader Zoie Carrizales said. “We worked very hard for weeks and I think we’ve never cheered better.”
Cheerleaders started preparations weeks before the game. They brought energy to the crowd and cheered on the football team. They led chants that involved the student section and threw amazing stunts to show off to the crowd. Without them, the game would not have had as much energy as it did.
“We did amazing during halftime,” said sophomore Band member Briana Clark. “I felt as if we were trying to compete with the Tacosa band. It gave us lots of adrenaline, like we were trying to prove something.”
The band performed an amazing halftime show. They work constantly to give their best performance they can, and it showed at Friday night’s game. The visuals and the feeling of the band playing our school song makes the student body all come together in unison to support their team.
“I really feel like that the sidelines in general really contributed to the energy of the game,” said sophomore Rediet Habte. “With all the different emotions people were feeling about this game the sidelines really took it and used that energy to hype the crowd and team.”
Every aspect of the game, no matter what role they played, brought its all to Friday’s game. Nothing can compare to the feeling of energy that night. If they do not know what school spirit is, they know now. Forever the crowd will cheer “Blow sand blow”.
