Sandies’ playoff prayers were answered Friday after beating Abilene High by a score of 17-10.
Playoffs seemed just out of reach for the Sandies coming into the Abilene game, however after a strong defensive and rushing performance from the Sandies their dreams are very real. The freezing cold afternoon started off slow for both teams. Only one touchdown was scored in the first half resulting in a 7-3 score entering the second half.
The Sandies would not let the slow start get into their heads. The rushing performance from the Sandies is a spectacle to watch, a strong performance from both junior stars Pius Vokes and JQ Ervin.
Ervin, fresh off of serious injury, came back like he never left. Two rushing touchdowns from Ervin lead to the Sandies’ impressive win over a strong opponent.
The Sandies will take on Monterey (0-9) in Lubbock, and if the Sandies win this match-up they will be playoff bound.
